The Somerset wicketkeeper, the latest South Africa-born player, was dropped four times but cracked six sixes and 13 fours in a total of 370-7 in Fatullah.

He shared an opening stand of 127 with skipper Alastair Cook (56), while Paul Collingwood added a 74-ball 109.

Kieswetter, who recently qualified to play for his adopted country, had starred on the recent Lions tour.

His form was so impressive that England's selectors decided they had to fast-track him into the national side at short notice, even though they already had two wicketkeepers in the squad
