Flintoff leaves the IPL 04/25/2009

England all-rounder Andrew Flintoff has returned to England from playing in the Indian Premier League in South Africa to undergo surgery on his right knee.

The England and Wales Cricket Board expects Flintoff to be out of action for three to five weeks.

It means the 31-year-old will miss the two-Test series against West Indies, which starts at Lord's on 6 May.

But he should be fit for the ICC World Twenty20 in June and the Ashes series against Australia which follows.

Andrew Flintoff and Kevin Pietersen will meet in the Indian Premier League on Monday when the Chennai Super Kings face the Bangalore Royal Challengers.

Both enjoyed contrasting fortunes when the IPL began on Saturday with Flintoff's Chennai side going down to a 19-run defeat to the Mumbai Indians.

Pietersen however, guided Bangalore Royal Challengers to an emphatic victory over Rajasthan Royals.

The English pair are the most expensive players in the league at £1.1m each

It was a so so start for Pieterson and Flintoff in the IPL.
Playing for Chennai, Andrew Flintoff was hit for three sixes in one over in expensive bowling figures of 1-44 in four overs, and made 24 with the bat.

Kevin Pietersen had a more successful start as Bangalore Royal Challengers beat Rajasthan Royals by by 75 runs.

Bangalore skipper Pietersen hit an encouraging 32 in a total of 133-8

After a dismal tour,Eng salvage a bit of pride by winning the ODI series by 3 games to 2.Andrew Flintoff took a hat-trick as England achieved their first one-day series victory in the West Indies with a 26-run win in the deciding game.
In a match reduced to 29 overs per side, Kevin Pietersen (48) and Ravi Bopara (44) led England to 172-5.

West Indies were on the back foot after Chris Gayle departed for a duck.

England's World Cup-winning batter Claire Taylor has become the first woman to be named one of the five Wisden Cricketers of the Year.

The 33-year-old from Berkshire was the World Cup player of the tournament, scoring 324 runs at an average of 64.

"It's a huge honour to join this amazing list," she told BBC Sport.
