Sachin Tendulkar created history by firing the first double century in one-day internationals as India put South Africa to the sword in Gwalior.

The 36-year-old was in indomitable form as he bludgeoned 25 fours and three sixes in a stunning 200 off 147 balls.

It passed the previous best of 194, set by Pakistan's Saeed Anwar in 1997 and Zimbabwe's Charles Coventry last year.

And it saw India, aided by a fabulous cameo of 68 off 35 balls from Mahendra Dhoni, to a superb 401-3 from 50 overs.

The Somerset wicketkeeper, the latest South Africa-born player, was dropped four times but cracked six sixes and 13 fours in a total of 370-7 in Fatullah.

He shared an opening stand of 127 with skipper Alastair Cook (56), while Paul Collingwood added a 74-ball 109.

Kieswetter, who recently qualified to play for his adopted country, had starred on the recent Lions tour.

His form was so impressive that England's selectors decided they had to fast-track him into the national side at short notice, even though they already had two wicketkeepers in the squad

Abdul Razzaq fired 46 from 18 balls as Pakistan beat England by four wickets to tie the Twenty20 series at 1-1.

Kevin Pietersen made an imperious 62 from 40 balls with four fours and three sixes as England compiled 148-8.

Debutant seamer Amjal Shahzad then took two wickets in the first over of the Pakistan reply and Graeme Swann claimed 3-14 as Pakistan slipped to 78-5.

But Razzaq smashed five sixes and finished the match with a maximum as Pakistan won with six deliveries left.

England Lions began their tour of the United Arab Emirates with a comfortable 52-run victory against the UAE A team in a Twenty20 match in Sharjah.

Michael Lumb top-scored with 42 off 32 balls in a total of 184-5.

Craig Kieswetter made 31, Ian Bell hit two fours and two sixes in an unbeaten 37 and Peter Trego fired three sixes in 25 off 10 balls.

Spinner James Tredwell struck with his second ball and finished with 3-22 as the hosts were restricted to 132-7.

UAE openers Indika Sampath and Amjad Ali gave their side a flying start and were in touch with the run rate in excess of nine per over.

But the introduction of 27-year-old Kent off-spinner Tredwell in the sixth over changed the complexion of the contest.

Tredwell, selected as cover for the winter Test series in South Africa and named in the squad for the senior tour to Bangladesh next month, struck in each of his first three overs.

Lancashire seamer Sajid Mahmood conceded 19 in his first over but Trego struck twice in three balls as the Lions secured a straightforward win.

The England second string side play the first of three Twenty20 matches against a Pakistan A side in Sharjah on Friday.

They play the full England team in a Twenty20 match on 17 February before facing Pakistan A in three 50-over one-day matches.
